The harsh high temperatures and humidity found in the Colombian Caribbean coast determined the strategies that shaped the architecture of this tropical dwelling. The house is a reinterpretation of the elements found in the Colonial architecture of Cartagena de Indias’ historical center. It has a patio configuration, which is dislocated and mirrored; the house adapts to the moderate steepness of the terrain through a dynamic distribution of the program on different levels. The patios are densely planted and provided with water, creating comfortable outdoor microclimates. The necessity of shade and natural ventilation generates an architecture rich in pergolas and trellises that protect the openings, corridors and let the wind flow freely.
