First-prize winner of the public architecture competition for the design of the Metropolitan Coliseum in Girardota, Antioquia. The project is part of a group of buildings promoted by the Aburrá Valley Metropolitan Area (Area Metropolitana del Valle de Aburra, AMVA) to stimulate education, sports and recreation throughout the different municipalities outside the borders of Medellín. Located on Girardota´s existing sports complex, the proposal serves to establish the coliseum as its meeting point, its epicenter.

To strengthen the urban relations with the entire Medellin metropolitan area, the proposal generated a new large-scale congregation space, a public plaza on the roof of the building which, thanks to the topography of the site, was accessible without having to go inside. This additional use permitted the building not only to be a sports facility but also an important public space where concerts and different outdoor cultural activities could be held to reinforce the social relations of the future surrounding housing projects and the existing population of the municipality.
