Located in one of the southern districts of Medellín’s metropolitan area, Ventum defies the logic of the real-estate market and developers’ that have populated the city’s landscape with towers that are poor in aesthetics and diversity. The building is a formal exploration, where the volumetric and façades´ outcome is the result of exposing the inside-outside relation of each of the typologies proposed. The typologies were designed to attend different segments of the population, from bachelors or couples to diverse family groups. Each typology is a sort of Lego piece that can be paired up with any other; consequently, the random aspect of the building is a result of the inside program more than a formal caprice. The communal spaces are another essential characteristic of the proposal. Instead of placing them in residual spaces or in the parking platform, they are nestled in the middle of the building, becoming protagonists not only of the formal aspect of the building but also of the daily lives of the inhabitants. Each tower has four apartments per floor for a total of eight, which – in the final phase – are connected to the elevators and emergency staircases through a series of bridges across the central void. This central vacuum works as a thermal chimney, boosting the natural ventilation of the apartments.
